About Rechel

Hello, I'm Rachel

I’m an experienced fertility acupuncturist with over 30 years of clinical practice and a deep passion for supporting people on their fertility journey.

My clinic is a calm, welcoming space where you will never feel rushed or judged. I’ll take the time to listen to your story, understand your concerns and create a treatment plan tailored to you.

For the first time in a long time you will finally feel someone is walking alongside you rather than simply treating you.

I graduated from the College of Traditional Acupuncture in Warwickshire, where I studied Five Element Acupuncture, in 1997 and then went on to train for a further year at the College of Integrated Chinese Medicine in Reading, where I studied Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Since settling in Bournemouth in 1999, I have built up an established practice, mainly through word of mouth, with a lot of recommendations coming from local GP’s and Consultants.

Later on I began to focus more on treating fertility, reproductive health and early pregnancy, areas that I have special interest in and, in December 2008,  I became a founding member of the Zita West National Network for Reproductive Health and undertook specialist training with Zita and her team in London.

How I Can help

Natural support for your fertility and wellbeing

Fertility Acupuncture

Targeted treatment to support ovulation, implantation and overall reproductive health, naturally.

IVF Support

Acupuncture to support your body before, during and after IVF – improving outcomes and wellbeing.

Male Fertility

The other half of the equation

About Acupuncture

Acupuncture is one of the oldest system of medicine in the world, used for thousands of years to restore balance and support the body’s natural ability to heal.

The Initial Consultation

The beginning of the journey.

What to Expect

A calm space. Expert care. Real support.

Your first session includes an unhurried consultation to understand your health history, fertility journey and goals. We will then agree a treatment plan tailored to you, using gentle acupuncture and practical wellbeing recommendations where appropriate.

Many patients describe their appointment as a valuable opportunity to pause, relax and feel supported.

The first 15 minutes is our catch up time.  Time set aside for you to update me, offload, rant, cry, laugh (lots of that!).

Then, using very fine, sterile, single-use needles, I gently stimulate carefully selected acupuncture points, based very much on where you are in your natural or IVF cycle.  Most people find the experience deeply relaxing and leave feeling calmer, lighter and more balanced.

The best part of each treatment?  When the needles stay in for approximately 20 minutes (you won’t feel them, most people don’t even know where they are!).  During this time I will make sure you are warm and cosy, place a heated eye pillow over your eyes, play some gentle background music and do some reiki if desired.  This enables you to completely switch off, relax, drift away and have the permission to do nothing,  without feeling the guilt that most of us women feel when we stop “doing”.  It really is invaluable and I love hearing people gently snoring when they completely let go and surrender to the feeling.

How Many Treatments Will I Need?

Every person is different.

Initially it is important to treat once a week for the first four weeks and then I space treatment out to fortnightly.  At least three months of treatment is optimal.

This is also optimal ahead of a fresh IVF treatment, although treatment can just take place once you have started the cycle if necessary.

Your programme will be reviewed regularly, and your treatment plan will always be tailored to your individual needs.

Pregnancy

The majority of my patients continue treatment with me once they are pregnant and I advise that they come fortnightly until about 10 weeks pregnant (weekly if there is a history of miscarriage).  Treatment is based on supporting the developing pregnancy, the maternal energy, the uterus, any anxiety which the pregnancy may have brought to the surface and pregnancy sickness.  I am extremely experienced in treating during pregnancy, making it incredibly safe and enjoyable.

What my Clients say

Frequently Asked Question’s

Fertility Acupuncture

Supporting your body naturally as you prepare for pregnancy through personalised acupuncture designed around your cycle, health history and overall wellbeing.

Acupuncture tailored around your clinic timetable, helping you feel calmer and supported before, during and after the different stages of assisted conception treatment.

Whether you are just beginning your journey or have been trying for some time, treatment is planned around your individual circumstances and reproductive health.

Fertility affects more than the body alone. Appointments also provide space to pause, reduce stress and support your emotional wellbeing during a demanding time.

Fertility Acupuncture

Targeted treatment to support ovulation, implantation and overall reproductive health, naturally.

It is widely known that fertility acupuncture can be extremely effective at enhancing fertility in many ways.  It can:

regulate periods

  • rebalance hormones
  • increase blood flow to the uterus and the endometrial lining
  • reduce stress and anxiety which have a negative effect on fertility hormones
  • improve sperm count, motility and morphology
  • treat polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome (PMOS, formerly PCOS) and endometriosis

reduce the risk of miscarriage and treat recurrent miscarriages.

IVF Support

Acupuncture to support your body before, during and after IVF – improving outcomes and wellbeing.

In 2008 the British Medical Journal published a report stating that Acupuncture can increase the success rate of IVF treatment by up to 65%.

When treating alongside Assisted Conception (IVF, ICSI, IUI) Acupuncture may be used to

  • improve ovarian function, leading to higher follicle production and better quality eggs
  • improve embryo quality
  • improve the quality and the thickness of the endometrium
  • strengthen the immune system
  • reduce the chance of miscarriage
  • prepare for the physical and emotional events that will be taking place
  • reduce the unwanted effects of the drugs used

Male Fertility

The other half of the equation

Male factor accounts for at least 50% of problems conceiving. It takes 100 days for new sperm to regenerate and a lot of positive change may be achieved during this three month period.

Patients are advised to make lifestyle and dietary changes (where necessary), and receive regular Acupuncture treatment during this time (to put your minds at rest, needles are never placed in genitalia!).

Improvements may be made in sperm count, motility and morphology and these are often areas that western medicine is unable to help with. Again, there can be a huge amount of stress and emotional involvement with male factor fertility issues and this is an area which Acupuncture may address very successfully.

About Acupuncture

Acupuncture is one of the oldest system of medicine in the world, used for thousands of years to restore balance and support the body’s natural ability to heal.

Rather than simply treating symptoms, acupuncture looks at you as a whole person.  By taking into account your physical health, emotional well-being and lifestyle, each treatment is tailored to your individual needs.

When people come to me for fertility support they often notice additional benefits too – including better sleep, improved energy, reduced stress and a greater sense of wellbeing.

In the majority of my patients stress levels are high, with many constantly running on adrenaline which leads to raised cortisol levels.  This then has an effect on all of the hormones, including the fertility hormones.   It cannot be overestimated how stressful fertility problems are, and unfortunately, this is an area which western medicine does not usually address. Fortunately Chinese medicine most definitely does. Not only is acupuncture very effective at lowering the stress levels but it also offers the opportunity to talk and be heard, to offload what’s on your mind, to have a good cry if you feel like it (tissues are in plentiful supply!) or just to switch off and relax for an hour.

The Inital Consultation

Your initial consultation is unhurried.

We’ll talk about your health, your fertility journey, your lifestyle and how you are coping emotionally.  There are often tears, tissues are always on standby.  You will learn how acupuncture works, how relaxing it is (especially the 20 minutes of reiki (optional) with a heated eye pillow and soft music playing in the background whilst the needles are doing their thing!).

You will leave with actionable steps that you and your partner can start taking immediately, a clear plan, realistic expectations and the reassurance that you’re no longer facing this journey alone.

Taking that first step can feel daunting.

Whether you’re looking for natural fertility support or preparing for IVF I’d be delighted to welcome you to my beautiful Bournemouth clinic.

Let’s take the next step together.
